“Irreplaceable, Stalwart Supporter, Exemplary Leader, Passionate, Committed to the Core” are all expressions used by Munro College Old Boys’ (MCOBs) to describe what Elias Azan meant to our Munro College family.
He attended Munro College between 1967 and 1974 and was an outstanding Head Boy between 1973 -1974.
Elias left Jamaica for a number of years but maintained a close association with Munro. On his return from Barbados, during which time he served as Honorary Consul, he threw himself fully into becoming a leader, major contributor, and motivator of the entire Munro College family. He was an Executive Member of the Old Boys’ Association before being elected President in 2016. He served until 2019 when he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Munro.
Elias was the “energizer bunny” of the Munro family of organizations. He was the chief fundraiser and conductor of the orchestra and “driver” of all the major initiatives to modernize the school and bring it into the 21st century. Elias was the consummate “tail twister” at MCOBA functions successfully raising millions of dollars for school projects.
Computers for the Computer laboratory, Tablets for students, New Tennis Courts, Window replacement in the Old Pearman Calder block, Upgrading of the Old Coke-Farquharson House. These and countless other projects had “Elias” stamped all over them and he played a critical role in bringing them to fruition.
Elias will forever be revered and remembered by the members of the Munro College family, the Executive, and Members of the Munro College Old Boys’ Association in particular. Above all, was his love for God Almighty and his family.
May his soul rest in eternal peace and may God comfort his wife Yasmin, mother Angie, sons Lutfy and Omar, and the rest of his family during this time of bereavement.
They can all be proud of his contribution to nation-building, commerce, and to Munro College his beloved Munro College, his beloved Alma Mater.
Bobo ski watten!
Peace, Love, and understanding always.
